Background

This event has originated from a proposal by Dr. Ana Cristina Pelosi, designed to create opportunities to approach problems related to violence, promoting and mediating dialogues between researchers and society, in order to foster reflection and enable production of knowledge that can contribute to the creation and dissemination of projects, programs, political and social organizations, group or individual actions of sociocultural-educational character. The proposal, therefore, seeks to combine theory and research with educational and cultural actions and policies, in order to minimize interactional conflicts and violent acts and to enable better life prospects among people who are more peaceful, conciliatory, and tolerant.

Its first edition, in 2016, was hosted by the Federal University of Ceará and the State University of Ceará, in partnership with the Open University of Lisbon, the Federal University of Maranhão, the University of Santa Cruz do Sul and the Centro Universitário Estácio do Ceará and was held  September 8 -10, 2016, in the Ceará State House of Representatives, bringing together more than six hundred participants from different areas with the common objective of discussing violence, seeking alternative solutions to combat this phenomenon that causes so much damage.
